White gold is a mixture of yellow gold and either nickel or palladium. Generally, white gold that is very expensive is also plated with rhodium, which increases substantially the durability of the jewelry. There are various methods that you can employ to care for your white gold jewelry.
Here is Best of Time's recommendation for you white gold purchases:
Cleaning White Gold Jewelry
If you have diamond white gold jewelry, it is recommended that you use a mild cleaning solution to avoid damaging the white gold as well as ruining the brilliance and sparkle of the diamonds. Mix a little bit of a mild dishwashing soap with water, and use a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean both the frame and the diamonds themselves. You will then be able to dry the jewelry using a soft cloth to prevent against scratches forming on the metal.
Maintaining White Gold Jewelry
If you wear your jewelry on a daily or weekly basis, you should maintain its shine and appeal by going to your jeweler and having it rhodium plated at least once a year to keep it from becoming mildly discolored.
Storing White Gold Jewelry
You should store your white gold jewelry in a cool, dry place, preferably away from other jewelry that may have sharp edges or in a cloth bag.
